Mission

Oxnard’s Musical Youth Theater (O’My Theater) offers local young artists the unparalleled experience of performing on a live stage.  We prioritize educational musical content, efficient scheduling, access to resources, creative utilization of recycled materials, and affordability for our diverse population.  With a commitment to develop and showcase local youth talent, we provide an opportunity to learn about multiple facets of musical theater, and strive to bring quality productions to the community in an effort to support the arts.

Program Vision
O’My Theater has developed a unique, time-efficient audition process and teaching curriculum, allowing cast members to develop performance skills at their own pace and intensity.  Equipping each cast member with take-home materials to listen, learn, and study ‘on-the-go’ allows rehearsals to run more efficiently with less frequency, encouraging a well-balanced schedule for a variety of youth activities.  Promoting a family friendly environment, students of all ages work together to create positive role models for one another.  In addition, we strive to attract caring adult volunteers who provide an essential element of community, experience, and networking capabilities.  Culminating in a full-feature theatrical stage performance, there’s only one thing left for cast, crew, and audience members to exclaim after the show…

“O’My Theater!”
A note from the director and founder, Cheryl Kewley

I have 4 amazing daughters---some very musical and others not so much…but ALL of them are artists. I have a great passion for teaching musical arts and personally felt the academic difference that a public school funded music program brought to my life as a child. I also felt the educational sting when funding for the arts was removed from my school, and I spent hours every day travelling to get to places that offered it. Music continues to be a staple in my life bringing great comfort, spiritual awakening, and inspiration throughout all of my adult endeavors whether professional or recreational. For this reason, I have developed this theatrical music program open to all.

Our goals include:
• Coordinate advertising and inclusion to targeted areas of Oxnard
• Increase volunteer opportunities for high school students as well as adults who support the arts.
• Offer a curriculum supported musical and educational activity inviting students of all ages for enrollment.

This project has truly been a dream turned reality as we have combined the in-school pilot launching success in 2012 with the decades of experience from volunteer teachers, community leaders, businesses, and the Oxnard Musical Advocacy Group.  As our team grows, our vision and success is sure to expand along with it. I look forward to building a musical community with you!
